Classification Service

US export law requires you to know the classification of every part you intend to export, whether:

  • You designed the part
  • You bought it from another manufacturer or distributor
  • You used it as part of an assembly

You also must know if a part is considered to be on the US Munitions List. This type of part cannot be exported out of the United States without a license.

Here's an example

Your engineer buys a circuit card to control the new refrigerator your company is designing.

The circuit card company gladly sells you the circuit card. It seems to be clearly a commercial item because your supplier originally designed it "for a small power boat."

What they did not tell your engineer, or they did not even know, was they designed the circuit card for a US Navy boat.

This part is clearly ITAR and your refrigerator requires an export license - even if you are only discussing a foreign sale!

This is where we can help

We have classified thousands of parts already - yours may be in our database. If not, we can classify it for you.

What we need to get started:

  • Part number
  • Description
  • Design cage-code (who owns the design if you don't)
  • and possibly detailed technical information.

What you will get in return:

  • The proper ECCN (Export Control Classification Number)
  • You will know if the part is controlled by the US Department of State or Commerce
  • Our Prices
